Steven Waldman, founder and editor-in-chief of
Beliefnet,
is interviewed about religion in the public square
|
In a segment titled
“Liberating the Founders,”
Speaking of Faith host Krista Tippett interviews
journalist Steven Waldman, founder and editor-in-chief of
Beliefnet,
about religion in the public square. Tippett says of
Waldman that, “he understands why 21st-century
struggles over religion in the public square spur passionate
disagreement and entanglement with politics at its most impure.”
In her introduction to this show, Tippett says that as a nation,
we are “divided over how much religion we want in our
political life.” She also asserts that “culture wars of
recent years distorted Americans' understanding of nations
founding fathers and the meaning of religious liberty.”
The Peabody Award winning Speaking of Faith program is
broadcast weekly on public radio. As Tippett says on the show’s
website, it is a “weekly program about religion, meaning,
ethics, and ideas.” TIA members should be especially
interested in two shows she hosted in October discussing how
religion is handled differently by progressives and
conservatives. To view the Speaking of Faith web pages

In addition to appearing on Tippett’s show, Steven Waldman is a
frequent guest of the
State of Belief
radio program hosted by TIA president Welton Gaddy. Waldman has
appeared on that show on 8/16, 7/5, 3/15, and 3/8 of this year.
