Global Day of Listening

Jacqueline Jill-Rito and Susan Perretti are volunteering in outreach for the Global Days of Listening project and educational efforts which we would like to introduce to you.

The goal is to have interested people (youth in particular but all ages are invited) connect via phone or Skype to young people in Afghanistan and other war-torn countries without the media hype and spin – thus enabling them to put names, faces and human relationships to the statistics and hyperbole that create "mass judgment" about others in different cultures and countries. Right now, thanks to the Afghan Youth Peace Volunteers, this guided and active listening project is being spread worldwide with the hope that it continues to touch in a very deep way, those who seek to connect in truth. Please check out the Global Days of Listening website and sign on and either listen to or participate actively in the next 24-hour GDoL on September 21 (UN International Day of Peace). Shorter days of listening are held on the 21st of each month.

The AYPV are a phenomenal group of Afghan youth from different ethnicities committed to peace building and nonviolent options for the future of Afghanistan. Their mission is as follows: "We seek to encourage wide-scale, person-to-person relationships towards peace and reconciliation, with a resolute commitment to nonviolence, non-killing and the well being of ALL people."

In addition to the already scheduled GDoLs, there are opportunities for church, peace and school groups to connect directly with the AYPVs as part of our very important educational initiatives.
