APRIL 16, 2009: MARY BETH MOORE, S.C. JOINS LI ALLIANCE FOR PEACEFUL ALTERNATIVES AS NEW CO-DIRECTOR

Our friends at The Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives have announced that Sister Mary Beth Moore has joined them as Co-Director.

Mary Beth Moore has worked for almost forty years in service and advocacy for vulnerable populations. She has been a pastoral agent within the Catholic Church, in Bellmore, Long Island and for ten years in Chiclayo , Peru, S.A. She holds an M.A. from New York University in rehabilitation counseling and has worked with persons with disabilities in Queens and Long Island . Most recently she held an administrative post in her religious congregation, the Sisters of Charity. She was coordinator of Pax Christi, Long Island from 2003 to 2008 and remains active in the Pax Christi LI Council. She lives with three other Sisters of Charity in Wantagh .

Mary Beth joins Margaret Melkonian who has served as Media Coordinator and Co-Director since 2003. Melkonian was Executive Director from 1985 to 1997.

Former Co-Director Megan O’Handley has a new position with a Long Island publishing firm. She will continue to work with the LI Alliance as a Program Associate and Secretary of the Board.
