TIA Issues

Safeguarding Religious Liberty

The Interfaith Alliance fights to ensure that the religious traditions and heritage of all Americans are protected.  We oppose the claim that the only way to be a true person of faith in America is to subscribe to a narrow political agenda.  We decry the claims of people like Gary Bauer and Pat Robertson that people of faith must subscribe to their narrow vision of a "Christian America".  We work towards a society where people of all faiths are welcome; where no faith receives preferential treatment; and where that diversity is recognized as a strength, not a threat.

Ensuring the Civil Rights of All Americans

The Interfaith Alliance works to ensure that no American is legally discriminated against on the basis of religion, race, creed, ethnicity, color, physical or mental disability, gender, age, or sexual orientation.  We challenge those who, under the banner of religion, try to pit people against one another for political gain.  We believe that religion is best seen as a constructive and healing voice that brings us together based on our shared values.

Strengthening the Public Education System

The Interfaith Alliance believes that a strong public education system is the foundation of a truly democratic society.  To this end we are bringing together parents, teachers, school officials, religious leaders, and all people of faith in the community to discuss ways to strengthen our nation's public education system.  We challenge those who mask themselves with religion in an effort to destroy public education.  We believe that the shared values of all of our religious traditions can unite us in our effort to ensure educational opportunity for all.

Eradicating Poverty

The Interfaith Alliance believes that all sectors of our society should reach out and show compassion for our less fortunate brothers and sisters.  We recognize the central importance of service to the poor, and affirm that our commitment to the less fortunate is deeply rooted in our spiritual and scriptural beliefs.  We challenge those who promote policies that attack the victims of poverty, not poverty itself, and are punitive at their core.

Championing a Safe and Clean Environment

The Interfaith Alliance promotes a responsible stewardship of our earth.  Our commitment to ensuring safe and clean air and water is deeply rooted in our spiritual beliefs, and we recognize the importance of protecting all of God's creatures on this earth.  We challenge those who use the guise of religion to promote policies geared towards providing economic incentives for narrow special interests at the expense of the real health concerns of protecting the environment for all humanity.

Restoring Good Government

The Interfaith Alliance is committed to promoting the positive role of religion as a healing and constructive force in public life.  We encourage active participation in the political process by people of good will and work to ensure that truthfulness, civility, and compassion always characterize the words and deeds of those seeking to influence public policy.  We challenge those who manipulate religion to promote a partisan political agenda, and seek to empower people of faith who feel disenfranchised from the political system.
