Past Events

Significant Programs:

  • Tom Andrews, former Congressman and Director of People for the American Way.  Forum on a program on the threat of The Far Right to democracy.
  • Terry Anderson, AP correspondent who was imprisoned in Lebanon for 7 years.  Lectured on the tensions in the Middle East, and the possibility of peaceful resolutions.
  • Geoffrey Canada, President of the Rheedlen Center for Families and Children in NYC and author of FIST, STICK, KNIFE, GUN, gave a speech which highlighted the threat of youth violence and our need to address the problems related to it or else have society pay the price for our failure.
  • Rev. David Dyson and Rabbi Brooks Susman headed a panel on the PROMISEKEEPERS, pointing out that what on the surface had many positive values, offered great threats when its leadership and long-term plan were examined closely.
  • Mary Brill, an ex-convict and now motivational speaker, with Peter Christ, a retired upstate sheriff and leader of RECONSIDER, spoke about the injustices of the ROCKEFELLER DRUG LAWS and the need to treat drug use as a sickness, not a crime.  Rehabilitation, not imprisonment is what is required.
  • We, with the co-endorsement of The Fellowship of Reconciliation have, for the past two years, conducted a STOP THE HATE VIGIL.  Thirteen different faith groups have participated, and many have called the event among the most spiritual they have attended.
